installers who need to ensure they comply with the format,
content and applications of the requirements for Electrical
Installations BS7671 (June 2001). It is designed for those
who need to upgrade existing knowledge to effectively deal
with the amended standard and match industry development.
The course covers such topics as protection for safety,
selection and erection of equipment and inspection and
testing to meet the standards of the IEE Wiring Regulations.
It is an obligatory qualification for all electricians and
installers whose work falls within the scope of Part P
regulations.

your electrical experience limited? Our EAL Level 2
Certificate for Domestic Electrical Installers could be
ideal for you. See page 7. This short course is designed for
qualified electricians who require the underpinning
knowledge to support their application to become a Qualified
Supervisor. It will give you an understanding of the new
Part P legislation and how to implement it. To carry out
much domestic electrical work, you must now be certified as
a ‘competent domestic installer’ and be registered with the
Applicable Building Regulations (Part P) Self-Certification
Scheme. You are required to issue an Electrical Installation
Certificate that complies with Building Regulation
Requirements.
This course enables you to
comply with legislation and become a Qualified Supervisor
with firms that are registered with approved Part P
competent person schemes.
Study time: 10 hours approx.
Practical Training: 40 minutes
exam (online) required.

Inspection,Testing and Certification of Electrical
Installations (City & Guilds 2391)
This course is for practising electricians who have
completed City & Guilds 2381 and need to meet the
requirements of the National Inspection Council for
Electrical Installation Contracting
(NICEIC) for inspection, testing and certification of
electrical installations. The course has been developed with
the aim that prospective qualifying managers and operatives
fully understand and comply with the requirements of BS7671.
Successful students who register with NICEIC can inspect,
test and certify domestic electrical installations to the
necessary criteria.
What you need: City
& Guilds Certificate (2381).
Study time: 20
hours approx.
Practical Training:
½ day practical training followed by ½
day assessments. Then ½ day revision session followed by
2½ hour written exam.
Qualification:
On successful completion of the practical assessment and
written exam, you will be awarded the City & Guilds
Certificate in Inspection, Testing & Certification of
Electrical Equipment (2391).
Level 3 Certificate
for In-service Inspection and Testing of Electrical
Equipment (City & Guilds 2377)
It is the duty of every employer to ensure that all
electrical equipment presents no danger to employees or
visitors and testing of portable appliances is a statutory
requirement. Work of this nature has significantly increased
and this course will qualify you to offer this service. This
course is for practising electricians who need to be
familiar with the Institution of Electrical Engineers. Code
of Practice in respect of portable appliance testing.
Study time:
40 hours approx.
Practical Training:
½ day practical
session, followed by 1 hour GOLA
(Global Online Assessment).
The qualification you
receive:
On successful completion of an online
(GOLA) exam and the practical assessment (taken at one of our centres), you will receive the
City & Guilds Level 3 Certificate (2377) for In-service
Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment.
EAL Level
2 Certificate for Domestic Electrical Installers
This course has been created specifically to meet the
needs of anyone carrying out domestic
electrical installations such as kitchen or bathroom
installers, plumbers or security system fitters who are
working within Part P of the Building Regulations. Under
the new legislation that came into effect in January
2005; to meet the minimum requirements of the Building
Regulations, anyone carrying out domestic electrical
installations must achieve at least Unit 1 of the EAL
Level 2 Certificate for Domestic Electrical Installers.
Successfully completing all 17 mandatory assessments
will enable you to comply with legislation, work
competently on domestic electrical
installations, become a Qualified Supervisor with firms
registered with approved Part P competent persons scheme
and gain a national recognized qualification.
