With a shortage
of 37,000 electrical workers, there’s a massive demand
for qualified electricians.
Becoming a qualified electrician can provide
you with a fulfilling new career, an excellent income and
a job for life, in which no two days are the same.
As your own boss, you can enjoy a flexible
lifestyle, with a secure and satisfying new career and a
guaranteed income. You can take on the jobs you want, when
you want. You can set your own fees, and keep the profits
to invest in your business or spend as you see fit. You
can enjoy career independence, knowing your skills will
always be in demand. Unlike most careers, you will have
a job for life – a passport to lucrative work for
as long as you want.
Alternatively, you may choose to work
for a contractor. You could even go on to do other work
in the electrical industry such as design, distribution
or consultancy.
Looking further
Once you’ve achieved City &
Guilds Levels 2 and 3 Certificates in Electrotechnical Technology
(2330), you can then register for the NVQ 2356 in Installing
Electrotechnical Systems.
To gain this NVQ qualification, you need
to have work experience and be
assessed on-site. We can help you get
work experience by promoting your CV to
electrical and specialist recruitment companies. We sometimes are
able to find placements through our industry links, although
this is not guaranteed.
You
will be recognised as a technically qualified electrician by
achieving the City & Guilds 2330 Electrotechnical
Certificates Levels 2 and 3 (Become an Electrician Courses 1
and 2). However, to become a fully approved electrician
recognised by the JIB (Joint Industry Board), you also need
to gain the City & Guilds 2356 Level 3 NVQ Certificate which
verifies practical competence in electrical work by way of
assignments not only in a domestic environment, but also in
commercial and industrial environments. We strongly
recommend that you achieve this qualification as well.
