Qualified plumbers are in demand for a wide range of work

Once you’ve successfully completed one of our main plumbing courses you could start your own plumbing business or get a job with a company.

Skilled and qualified plumbers will always be sought after: both to work in people’s homes; and also to work on maintenance and commercial projects, building sites and renewable energy projects.

There are 602,000 Google searches a month for ‘plumber /s’1  and many major building projects throughout the UK where qualified plumbers are required.

Domestic work

You can carry out installation work on extensions and new houses; and replace existing systems. People will always need qualified plumbers: for jobs like fixing leaks, installing and replacing showers and taps, and replacing existing bathrooms and kitchens.

Maintenance work

You could fix leaking pipework or replace items such as showers, taps, ball valves and heating pumps. You can get through quite a few of these small plumbing jobs in a day, and earn as much if not more than installing.

Emergency callouts

You could work on major leaks and other emergencies which may be charged at premium rates.

New building sites

Plumbers are needed to install heating systems and hot and cold systems – including kitchens and bathrooms.

Maintenance contracts

These enable you to receive a regular income for plumbing work from establishments such as hotels, restaurants and offices.

Full-time ‘in-house’ employment

Hospitals, factories and some major offices employ their own permanent ‘in-house’ plumber.

2012 Olympics

The Olympics is estimated to be a £9.3bn2  investment and qualified plumbers will be needed.

Crossrail

£15.9bn is invested in the Crossrail scheme3  and plumbers with industry recognised qualifications may be required for the project.

To become a qualified plumber you should take either our ‘Become a Qualified Plumber’ or ‘Become a Qualified Plumber Advanced’ course.
