To work with gas in the UK, you must be on the Gas Safe Register. Our main gas course ‘Become a Gas Engineer’ prepares you to be on the Gas Safe Register. You can then work with gas in your own business or as part of a company.

Become a Gas Engineer

Be on the Gas Safe Register and:
Work as a gas engineer running your own business or working for a company.
Work on servicing, installing and maintaining gas appliances.
Install and maintain appliances in rented property.
Provide an emergency callout service.
Work on new buildings.
Work on domestic properties.
‘Become a Gas Engineer’ comprises three parts which, when successfully completed, can enable you to register on the Gas Safe Register.
BPEC Gas Foundation Course (30 days) which can give you the required in-depth knowledge of working safely with gas*.
Portfolio of Evidence where you gain on-site work experience. If you don’t have access to onsite work, we may be able to assist you although we cannot guarantee you a position. The work you will need to complete when compiling your portfolio of evidence will vary depending on the nature of the jobs you undertake.
ACS Gas Workshop and Assessments (5 days)** prepares you for registering on the Gas Safe Register

We are registered with Gas Safe and can offer the ACS Assessments you need to achieve your own registration.

Gas Safe Register is the body charged by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to maintain a register of competent gas engineers in the UK and Isle of Man. Being on the Gas Safe Register is a legal requirement for businesses and self-employed people working on gas fittings or appliances.1

Once you’ve successfully completed our course and registered on the Gas Safe Register, you could set up your own business or join a company to benefit from the demand and variety of gas work available.
* Currently available at our Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Leeds, Livingston, London Central, Manchester, Merseyside and Newcastle centres. If you hold a relevant qualification or are an experienced plumber you may not need to complete all elements of this course. Please contact us for details.

ACS re-assessments, including CPA1

Qualified gas engineers can take their ACS re-assessments at selected OLCI centres around the UK. For more information, please call our Qualifications team on 020 7430 8419.
